The Red Haired Boy I Saw By : Dea A Widyaswari | Anak Lelaki Berambut Merah yang Pernah Ku Lihat Oleh : Dea A Widyaswari
I firstly met him when I was eight. It was the first and last I saw the boy. I was sitting on the bus stop, beside my mother, with thick sweater and coat covered my tiny body; protecting me from the nasty coldness of winter air. | Pertama kalinya aku bertemu dia ketika aku berumur delapan tahun.
We were waiting for the bus, of course. My mother couldn’t drive a car and instead took the public transportation to go to almost everywhere. | Kami sedang menunggu bus, tentu saja.
There were only few people waiting on the bus stop beside us. Next from us, there was an old lady with her Collie. She was sitting on the bench, same like us; and busily talked with her dog | Hanya sedikit orang di sebelah kami yang menunggu di halte.
There was a man wearing grey trench coat. He was reading the morning paper, ignoring his surroundings. | Lalu ada seorang pria berjas hujan abu – abu. Dia sedang membaca koran tadi pagi, tanpa mempedulikan sekitarnya.
The last person was a boy ---no, a teen—with long black coat, red blood scarf around his neck, standing near the lamp pole. He was staring at the faraway, towards the thickness of the pine trees in front of the bus stop.
I even could picture his feature : longing and serence, seemingly oblivious to the ugliness of the world.
The most enthralling thing. I saw from him was his hair. He had red hair. Not ordinary red hair like usually Irish has. Dia memiliki rambut berwarna merah. Bukan rambut merah yang biasa dimiliki orang Irlandia.
He had hair as red as blood – red hair which gleamed and shone under the faint sunlight of our sky, like a piece of the most precious ruby on the earth.
And his skin was almost as pale as the snow, the paleness seemed to make his red hair to stand out.
I stared at him. Mom once said, it was rude to stare at other people like they had grown out two heads; but with him, I couldn’t help but stare. He was beautiful. | Aku melihat dia. Sesaat ibu berkata, tidak sopan melihat orang lain seperti mereka sudah menumbuhkan dua kepala; tapi dengannya, aku tidak menuntut tapi memandang. Dia begitu indah.
A piece of ruby in the middle of snowy whiteness. | Sebuah batu rubi di tengah putihnya salju.
He was oblivious of my stare, of course; and kept his eyes on the rows of pine trees on the faraway. I also kept my eyes on him – until he finally turned his head and looked at me, right on the eyes.
I gasped. Even from the distance, I could see his eyes as clearly as I saw the blue sky in summer. His irises were as bloody red as his hair. His eyes were like two identical rubies, piercing through my brown and making me shiver. | Aku tersentak. Bahkan dari kejauhan aku bisa melihat matanya sejelas aku melihat langit biru musim panas. Iris matanya semerah darah seperti rambutnya. Matanya seperti dua rubi yang serupa, menembus melalui mata coklatku dan membuat ku gemetar.
Out of cold or fear. I didn’t know. Definitely out of embarrassment from being caught of guard staring. And the bus came and we got in. I glanced at him and saw that he didn’t take the bus. He still stood beside the pole. However, he was now staring at me like I at him before. His eyes were unreadable.
When in the bus my mom said rude watched the old lady next to me. " I'm not looking at the old lady but blood red-haired boy at the bus stop lamp pole ". Mom looked at me quizzically, “ Boy? What boy? I don’t see the boy beside us ”. |
I gaped. I looked back at the bus stop. The boy smiled at me and vanished. | Aku tertegun. |
